{"id":1203,"date":"2024-11-19T09:54:09","date_gmt":"2024-11-19T08:54:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/centenvoorstudenten.be\/groeipakket-kinderbijslag\/"},"modified":"2026-06-19T11:04:23","modified_gmt":"2026-06-19T10:04:23","slug":"child-benefits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/centenvoorstudenten.be\/en\/child-benefits\/","title":{"rendered":"Child benefits"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Child benefits for yourself<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are an international student, staying in Belgium temporarily because of&nbsp;your studies, your eligibility for child benefits depends on where you are domiciled, in Flanders or in Brussels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>you are domiciled in Flanders: you are not entitled to child benefits for yourself.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>you are domiciled in Brussels:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>from 1 September 2026, new students with a foreign nationality who come to Brussels on a student visa are not entitled to child benefits for themselves.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>if on 1 September 2026, you are already registered in Brussels as an international student and receiving child benefits, you will retain your entitlement to child benefits, as long as you continue your studies and you fulfill the following conditions:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>you are not yet 25 years old<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>you are registered for at&nbsp;least 27 credits; the enrolment (or the first enrolment if you get 27 credits through several enrolments) must take place by 30 November<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>you don&#8217;t&nbsp;work more than  240 hours per quarter; an&nbsp;exception is the&nbsp;third quarter&nbsp;(from July to September):  during this period, you can work&nbsp;more than 240 <strong>hours<\/strong>&nbsp;without losing child benefits, provided that you continue your  studies after the summer vacation.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-default\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Child benefits for your children<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are an international student, staying in Belgium temporarily because of&nbsp;your studies, you can receive  child benefits for the children living with you,&nbsp;on<strong> <\/strong>the condition that they are authorized to reside in Belgium. <br>This right is granted until the child turns 18. Once 18, he or she is still entitled to child benefits until the age of 25 if certain study conditions are met (registered for at least 27 credits or 13 hours of classes; not working too much). <br>The benefits consist of a birth allowance which can be claimed on or after the 6th month of pregnancy and a monthly child benefit payment.
